Extension Privacy Policy
What the TurboDL extensions for Chrome and Firefox read, where it goes, and why each permission is needed.
Last updated: November 1, 2026
This policy covers the TurboDL extensions for Chrome (Chrome Web Store) and Firefox (addons.mozilla.org), developed by AndryaThr ("we"). It completes the general Privacy Policy.
In short: the extensions send nothing to us or to any server. They only talk to the TurboDL app installed on your computer.
What the extensions do
They hand the downloads started in your browser over to the TurboDL desktop app, which downloads them faster. If the app cannot take a download, the browser keeps it.
Data read, and where it goes
When a download starts, or when you choose Download with TurboDL on a link, the extension reads:
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Link of the file | So TurboDL can download it |
| File name proposed by the site | So TurboDL saves it under the same name |
| Referrer (the page the download comes from) | Some servers refuse a download without it |
| Browser user agent | Some servers serve the file only to a browser |
| Cookies of the file's site, if Send the site's cookies is on (off by default) | So downloads that need you to be signed in keep working |
| File size, when the browser knows it | To leave small files to the browser, if you asked for it |
This data is sent only to the TurboDL app on your computer, through the browser's native messaging: a direct channel between the browser and a program installed on the same computer. No network port is opened, and only the TurboDL extension can use this channel.
The extensions:
- send no data to us, nor to any third party;
- contain no analytics, telemetry, advertising or remote code;
- do not read the content of the pages you visit, nor your browsing history;
- do not sell, share or transfer data, and use it for no purpose other than the download you started.
What the TurboDL app then does with a download (connecting to the file's server, keeping the list of downloads) is described in the general Privacy Policy.
Data stored by the extensions
The options of the popup are kept in the browser's local storage, on your computer only (not synced):
- the Capture downloads switch;
- the display of Download with TurboDL in the right-click menu;
- the minimum size below which files stay with the browser;
- the links not to capture (your regular expressions).
Removing the extension deletes them.
Permissions
| Permission | Use |
|---|---|
downloads | Detect a download started in the browser, pause it while TurboDL is asked, then cancel it (taken by TurboDL) or resume it (left to the browser) |
nativeMessaging | Send the download to the TurboDL app on your computer, show in the popup whether the app is installed, and open it |
cookies | Read the cookies of the file's site only, at the time of the download, and give them to TurboDL |
Access to all sites (<all_urls>), optional | Asked only when you turn on Send the site's cookies, and given back when you turn it off. Needed to read the cookies of any site you download from; the extensions inject no script into pages |
contextMenus | Add Download with TurboDL to the right-click menu of links |
storage | Keep the options of the popup |
