Detection

  1. The extension of the file name (case-insensitive).
  2. Otherwise, the MIME type sent by the server (video/*, application/pdf…).
  3. Otherwise: General.

Editing the lists

In the app: Settings → Categories. Each extension is a tag; ✕ removes it, the Add field adds one (the dot and capital letters are ignored).

An extension belongs to one category only: adding it elsewhere removes it from the previous one.

For the CLI and the MCP server, the lists live in the profile or are edited with:

turbodl-cli configure my.profile.json --add-ext video:mts,vob --remove-ext audio:wma

Sorting

With Sort by category (on by default), each file goes into the sub-folder of its category: Downloads/Video/movie.mkv. The sub-folder name can be changed.

Note

Category names are translated in the interface, but the default sub-folders keep their English names (Video, Archives…) whatever the language, so folders do not move when you switch languages.
